My Educational Technology Reflection
Reflection on Educational Technology
The Educational
Technology course has been a journey. It has made me appreciate technology more
and what it has to offer. This was all made possible by a patient, reliable and
enthused lecturer. When I first began this course, I felt lost and not in “the
know”. I have learnt a lot about computers and how to use the programs designed
on it to my advantage in everyday life and in the classroom when I enter the
working world.
Through the completion of this course I have now gained a
better understanding of how important it is to employ technology as a teaching
strategy as an Early Childhood educator. I have learnt to create things I have
only saw and heard about, such as web quest, wikis, blogs among others. These programs
have taught me to be tolerant and patient as executing these programs were
tedious and even got frustrating at times. I enjoyed sharing on the blogs and the
forums as it gave me an opportunity to socialize with others on a social media
apart from the usual ‘facebook’ and ‘watsapp’.
During my study of this course I also learnt about the
ISTE standards which shows that children
use technology in a variety of ways for a variety of reasons. For example they
use technology to be creative individuals, where they apply existing knowledge
to generate new ideas, products or processes. The standards also show where
students use technology to communicate with other peers and relay messages and
solve problems. This way students will be able socialize with others and
develop critical thinking skills. This problem solving skills will be
accomplished after the students have used technology to research and use
information. I enjoyed learning all about technology and will use this
experience to my advantage in the future to enhance teaching in my classroom
when I enter the working world.
Indeed Educational technology has taught me a lot and I hope
to continue using what I have learnt to teach others so they can explore as I did
during my completion of this course.

Personal Philosophy on using technology in the classroom
My Philosophy
on using technology in the classroom
"The
principle goal of education is to create men and women who are capable of doing
new things, not simply repeating what other generations have done."~ Jean
Piaget
My
philosophy is, "Every child is unique in his/her own way and as a result I
believe that the inclusion of Educational
Technology within the classroom is one of the most valuable assets a young
child can attain, especially in my specialized area of Early Childhood
Education. Therefore as an educator in training it is my responsibility to keep
abreast with the use of technology. I believe
that every child has the potential to carry out any task given; therefore, I
plan to not only learn from the experience of current professionals, but also
to keep up on new innovations and incorporate them in my classroom, so that I can steer my students in the right direction
as technology evolves with the use of its amazing features that can help to
make my lessons realistic, as it is important in the Early Childhood field to
make the classroom environment comfortable and encouraging.
I take pride and joy in seeing boys and girls make their
own discoveries. I believe children need to explore what technology has in
store and experience how it can improve their lives educational and socially. I
believe that students should be taught how to and with the use emails, creative
computer programs, PowerPoint, movie maker, along with other computer programs.
As an educator in training I believe these programs will help students to posit
creativity and problem solving skills to carry out activities given, where they
can be independent individuals and exhibit competence in the classroom. There are so many opportunities available at the
fingertips and I plan to put them to use to become an effective and efficient
teacher.
As a future educator, I will continue to increase my
knowledge about technology and keep current with new innovations in order to
provide the most successful learning environment for my students. No
matter what my content area is, I will integrate technology in my classroom in
order to provide my students with a 21st century education.

How can I identify the different families in my community?
A community is a group of people living together who share common interests.Within this community there are different types of families. Families love and take care of each other in many different ways. To belong to a family makes persons comfortable, safe and protected. The family acts as a unit of providing the members within it with the basic needs for their survival. These needs are food, clothing and shelter. Some types of families found in the community are: the Nuclear family, Extended family, Single Parent and Sibling Family. Some persons within the family work to provide the basic needs. We often refer to these persons as the "bread winners" of the family.
A nuclear family is one where there is mommy, daddy, a child or children living together. Sometimes only one parent is the bread winner for the family, but it is important to know that although they may not provide everything needed, their efforts are to be applauded. Secondly the Extended family consists of more members than any other family type in our communities. These members include: mommy. daddy, grandfather, grandmother, aunties, uncles, cousins, brothers and sisters. The Single Parent family on the other hand only has one of either parent who lives with a child or children, while the Sibling family has an older brother or sister acting as the parent towards younger siblings.
Nuclear family
Extended family
Single Parent Family
Sibling Family
Learning begins with family at home. A lot of important things can be learnt from family. Children often learn social graces, proper manners and the importance of identity. Not every family will have a "smooth sailing" lifestyle. Families have their good and bad times, but in the end they work things out and they still remain "One big, happy family". Whichever family you belong to, you are special because nothing matters more than being with family.
The next time you walk in our community, investigate the different types of families that are living there and you will see that a community is made up of different types of families.
